5 candidates to Replace Bernd Leno at Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has shown an unstable performance this season. The German player was recorded to have made a number of fatal blunders.

One of Leno's blunders came when Arsenal faced Everton in Week 33 of the Premier League. The Gunners lost by a score of 0-1 because of Leno's mistake.

The German goalkeeper intended to catch Richarlison's cross. But the ball escapes from his catch and goes into his own net.

Due to Leno's unsatisfactory performance, Arsenal may need to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. There are a number of goalkeepers that Mikel Arteta could consider.

Five Goalkeepers who can replace Bernd Leno

1. Unai Simon

Unai Simon is currently a goalkeeper at Athletic Bilbao. He was able to become a substitute for Kepa Arrizabalaga in Bilbao's goal.

Simon performed quite well with Bilbao this season. A total of nine clean sheets have been recorded by the 23-year goalkeeper during 2020/2021.

Simon has played 40 matches in all competitions. He also managed to help Bilbao win the Spanish Super Cup after beating Barcelona.

2. Gianluigi Donnarumma

Gianluigi Donnarumma has the opportunity to leave AC Milan at the end of the season. He has never signed a new contract at the San Siro.

Donnarumma's contract will expire this summer. Arsenal can get the 22-year-old goalkeeper for free.

This season, Donnarumma has appeared 44 times in all competitions. Of that number, he managed to record 11 clean sheets.

3. Illan Meslier

Illan Meslier is the current main keeper of Leeds United. Having just joined since last season, Meslier has shown a neat performance this season.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper made a number of brilliant saves for his team. As a result, Leeds are currently able to stay in the middle table.

From 33 matches in the Premier League, Meslier recorded 10 clean sheets. His contract at Elland Road expires in 2023.

4. Head to Arrizabalaga

Kepa Arrizabalaga has already lost his place in goal at Chelsea. He currently had to give in to Edouard Mendy.

As an undercover goalkeeper, Kepa has rarely played this season. He played 11 games keeping eight clean sheets.

Kepa is no longer the first choice at Chelsea. The Spanish player reportedly wants to leave Stamford Bridge next summer.

5. Sergio Romero

Since joining Manchester United, Sergio Romero has never been the first choice. He only became the cover goalkeeper David de Gea.

In this season, Romero has never played at all. The Argentine goalkeeper was not included in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans at Old Trafford.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper's contract with the Red Devils will expire at the end of this season. Romero wants to part with the club in the summer.
