Starting XI of Chelsea in the 2012 Champions League Final

Chelsea finally confirmed themselves to the Champions League final. Certainty was obtained after they got rid of Real Madrid with an aggregate score of 3-1.

In the second leg of the semifinals, Thursday (06/05/2021), the Blues successfully beat Real Madrid. They won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea opened the scoring through Timo Werner in the 32nd minute. Meanwhile Mason Mount increased the lead of the Blues in the 87th minute.

Two Chelsea goals were scored by Timo Werner and Mason Mount. These results made the Blues advance to the final and will face Manchester City in the top party.

Chelsea last appeared in the Champions League final in 2012. At that time, the Blues managed to become champions by beating Bayern Munich.

Chelsea beat the Bundesliga giants on penalties. The match took place at Bayern headquarters, the Allianz Arena.

1. Goalkeepers: Petr Cech

Petr Cech was Chelsea's main goalkeeper at that time. He has been playing for the Blues since 2004 after being signed from Rennes.

Cech is still strengthening Chelsea after the Champions League final. However, he then left the Blues in 2015 with a move to Arsenal.

2. Left Back: Ashley Cole

Ashley Cole played for Chelsea for eight years. He decided to leave Arsenal and came to Stamford Bridge because he wanted to win the title.

With Chelsea, Cole managed to appear in the Champions League final twice. However, he was only able to win the 2012 final.

3. Center-back: David Luiz

David Luiz joined Chelsea in 2011. In the following season, the Brazilian center-back managed to lift the Champions League trophy with the Blues.

Luiz left for PSG and finally returned to Stamford Bridge in 2016. The 34-year-old is currently defending rival club Arsenal.

4. Center-back: Gary Cahill

Gary Cahill came to Chelsea in January 2012 after being signed from Bolton Wanderers. Six months later, Cahill won the Champions League trophy with his new club.

Cahill played for Chelsea until 2019. The England defender then continued his career with Crystal Palace.

5. Right Back: Jose Bosingwa

The 2011-2012 season was Jose Bosingwa's last season with Chelsea. However, the Portuguese player ended his four years together with the Blues with the Champions League trophy.

QPR is the port of Bosingwa's next career. The former Porto player played there for one season before moving to Turkey with Trabzonspor.

6. Midfilders: John Obi Mikel

John Obi Mikel is one of the players who played for Chelsea for a long time. He played for the Blues from 2006 to January 2017.

Mikel won many titles during his time at Chelsea. After being left out of Antonio Conte's plans, Mikel continued his career at the Chinese club with Tianjin TEDA.

7. Midfilders: Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend. During 13 seasons at the club, he managed to deliver the Blues to many titles including the 2012 Champions League.

After retiring from the gridiron, Lampard had returned to Stamford Bridge as a coach. However, he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel earlier this year after a string of poor results for the club.

8. Left Winger: Ryan Bertrand

Ryan Bertrand graduated from the Chelsea academy and was promoted to the main squad in 2006. Despite the difficulty of getting the chance to play regularly, he is believed to be a starter in the 2012 Champions League final.

During his time at Chelsea, Bertrand was often loaned out to a number of clubs such as Bournemouth, Norwich City, Aston Villa and Southampton. He finally moved permanently to St Mary's Stadium in 2015.

9. Attacking Midfielder: Juan Mata

Juan Mata has had a very successful career with Chelsea. After winning the Champions League, the Spanish player won the Europa League title.

However, Mata had to leave Chelsea in January 2014 and joined Manchester United. Rarely playing under the direction of Jose Mourinho, Mata made the decision to move to Old Trafford.

10. Right Winger: Salomon Kalou

Salomon Kalou joined Chelsea in 2006 after signing from Dutch club Feyenoord. Six seasons at Stamford Bridge, Kalou won eight titles.

After the 2012 Champions League final, Kalou left Chelsea and continued his career with Lille. Now the Ivory Coast player is still actively playing and has been playing for Botafogo since the beginning of this season.

11. Striker Didier Drogba

Didier Drogba is one of the best attackers and players Chelsea have ever had. Since coming to Stamford Bridge in 2004, he has succeeded in bringing the Blues to glory.

Apart from the Champions League, Drogba also won four Premier League titles with Chelsea. In two periods with the Blues, Drogba scored 164 goals in 381 matches.

12. Coach: Roberto Di Matteo

Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012 under Roberto Di Matteo. He was appointed coach of the Blues on March 4, 2012 to replace the sacked Andres Villas Boas.

Di Matteo still handled Chelsea the following season. However, the Italian was sacked on 21 November 2012 after a string of poor results for the club.
